Our club's set their own playing membershp fees for a season. It varies from club to club. But typically, clubs will levy a flat membership fee for the season. And its common for a match day fee to paid to cover the cost of the match ball and umpires.
Our highest grades - Dunstan Shield (Turf), Macgibbon Shield (Synthetic), McCarthy Shield (Limited Overs Competition) are played at a very high standard. A number of former Victorian Premier Club cricketers play in the ECA, and we have one former Test player as well. You can check out our videos on our social channels to get a sense of the standard. The ECA works on the promotion/relegation grading method, so clubs/teams are always incentivised to do their best at all grades.
The various ECA competitions accommodate players of all ages and abilities. When you are doing your homework as to which club you would like to join, check to see what grades they are drawn to play in and/or if they are intending to enter a new side for the upcoming season. We have rules that deter clubs from stacking sides (eg players playing out of their grade just to qualify a side for finals). If you are over 40, and looking for a more social-grade environment, you may want to consider our Veteran's competitions - these are played on every second Sunday during the season.
The ECA runs both Turf and Synthetic graded competitions. Fixtures are a combination of two-day and one-day formats. We also have dedicated Limited Over Competition (LOC) grades, which are played exclusively on synthetic surfaces. Many of our clubs field sides in both Turf and Synthetic grades.
Yes. The Kookaburra T20 Cup is a sepaate 'open' Grade played mid-week during the season. All Clubs are eligible to enter a team in the Competition. It's a popular format as it crosses over the regular Saturday Turf and Synthetic grades. For example, we often see a traditonal Macgibbon (Synthetic) Club competing against a Dunstan (Turf) Club. And Clubs that have First XIs competing in the second and third tier weekend grades competing against first-tier grades.
