Secretary Eastern Cricket Umpires Association
The Eastern Cricket Umpires Association is saddened to report the passing of one of its long serving members. Iain Graham joined the ECUA for the 2004/05 Season having had an extensive playing career in the sport he loved.
He quickly disp
layed his umpiring capabilities and built a long and distinguished umpiring record. His last Umpiring outing was the MacGibbon Grand Final in 2024.
His prowess and conduct as an umpire saw him awarded the Keith Carr Trophy in 2022/23 season recognising his excellence all round performance as an umpire.
Iain also contributed off the field to the ECUA holding several committee and executive roles including those as Treasurer and Vice President and President and this service was recognised in the awarding of Life Membership in 2014.
He also willingly took on the role of appointments officer for the Junior cricket programme right up the end of 2023/24 season and he got immense joy in seeing the Junior programme go from strength to strength
He also umpired more broadly in the VMCU carnivals held over the summer break periods.
For those that umpired with him, Iain was a great on field partner and was well liked and respected by all the players and officials. He willingly socialised with them at the end of games and became well known and respected throughout the ECA and VMCU.
The ECUA and ECA extends its condolences and warm regards to Iain’s wife Christine and their whole extended family on this sad occasion.
