Trinity Willison and Burwood Uniting Canterbury game evenly poised

Trinity Willison 205 v Burwood Uniting Canterbury

If recent history is any guide, Day 2 of the Macgibbon Shield Grand Final promises to be a typically lively and competitive day of cricket after honours were shared on Day 1. Whilst Macleay Park is neutral territory for both teams, it should be noted that Trinity Willison have featured in the past three grand finals on the ground and know it very well. The game is delicately poised - TW scored a just par 205 and were bowled out in the last over of the days play. Whether this is s significant psychological edge for BUCC remains to be seen. But as TW were 3/103 at one stage, BUCC have done well to restrict TW to that total.

Trinity Willison won the toss and elected to bat. After progressing comfortably to 25 without loss, Burwood Uniting Canterbury Joshua Morris (3/38) picked up the crucial wicket of TW skipper Nick Sparks who mis-queued a hook shot to be brilliantly caught by the keeper Jenkin over his shoulder running flat out towards fine leg. Spinner Malinga DeSilva (3/60 from 34 overs) then had Marcus Deayton neatly caught behind by Jenkin. As he has done all season, De Silva tied down his end with his offies - and the third wicket partnership of 56 between Matthew Veitch (15 from 83) and John Graves (53 from 117) was hard earned. Veitch and Graves were dismissed in quick succession and just as TW batters started to form partnerships, BUCC struck twice to have TW at 6/134. Gabe Kennedy (22 from 45) and Tom Clarke (44 from 107) knuckled down to push the score to 175 before Kennedy was dismissed slashing at a wide one. Tom Clarke was the last batter dismissed, run out in the final over. De Silva was excellent all day - bowling almost half the overs in picking up his three wickets. Opener Josh Morris was very tidy with his 3/38 off 14.3 overs.

We highly recommend anyone who hasn't seen a Macgibbon Shield Grand Final before, head to Macleay Park and see these two teams go at it on Saturday.  You will not be disappointed.
