Trinity Willison rout Burwood Uniting Canterbury to win the Macgibbon Shield Grand Final

A Macgibbon Shield Dynasty - three flags in four years.

Trinity Willison 205 def Burwood Uniting Canterbury 85

An inspired spell of bowling by Trinity Willison Captain Nick Sparks, ably supported by his other bowlers saw Burwood Uniting Canterbury completely routed on day two of the Macgibbon Shield Grand Final and propel Trinity Willison to their third Macgibbon Shield flag in four years. Whilst Burwood Uniting Canterbury will no doubt be disappointed by their effort on day 2 of the game, they have made great progress this season and we expect them to be back stronger next year stronger and better for this experience.
We anticipated this would be the game of the round as BUCC had done a great job on bowling out TW for 205 at Macleay Park. With the conditions on day two more than fair for batting, BUCC made a steady start. Openers Ben Lammardo (9 from 45) and Josh Hillyer (16 from 56) had negotiated the first 14 overs before Jake Barker struck to dismiss Hillyer LBW. What happened next was extraordinary. Nick Sparks struck twice in consecutive balls - to remove Lammardo and then skipper Rishab Guddadamane for a golden duck. He then removed Edward James, Lewis Lockwoord and then Malinga De Silva, all cheaply to have BUCC reeling at 7/40. Andrew Lammardo was watching the Grand Final unravelling at the other end, and batted stoicly - facing 59 balls for his 3 runs before he was dismissed by Gabe Kennedy (15.4-8-14-2). Full credit to BUCCs lower order who never gave up hope. Michael Jenkin batted well for his 26 from 70, and Joshua Morris (5) Matthew Dean (12 from 67) and Dane McRae (5 from 28) showed plenty of pluck to keep the match going as long as it did. Jake Barker picked up 2/16 from his 18 oves that included 10 maidens. Nick Sparks was named player of the match with his 5/21 from 16 overs including 7 maidens.
