Last night, Burwood Uniting Canterbury Cricket Club life members Kieran and Jo Colgan were jointly awarded the 2023 Dick Menting Community Champion Award.
An annual award presented by the Inner East Community Bank (Bendigo Bank), the award recognises exceptional contributions to the community made by volunteers.
"It’s difficult to summarise the contribution that these two have made to our Club for over 20 years. Starting out as junior parents with James and Adam, the pair were a combination of team manager and coach throughout their son's junior progression.
Since joining the committee over 10 years ago, Kieran has been Facilities Manager and has always ensured our Lynden pavilion is the best maintained in the competition. More recently, Kieran has led the Lynden redevelopment for the Club, managing the displacement, liaising with stakeholders and planning the structure/fit-out of the completed rooms.
Jo has also been a committee member for over 10 years and has been responsible for Junior Registrations throughout this time. Our recent growth in juniors (including a girl's team this season) can largely be attributed to Jo. Further, Jo has been the Apparel Manager for the last 5 seasons, a crucial part of our operations.
Jo and Kieran are the epitome of what it means to be a member of the Burwood Bulls. Community sport is built on the backs of volunteers, and we are truly privileged to have two people who have continually display so much dedication, passion and compassion. Their efforts have created a family-friendly and welcoming environment for all members, visitors and the broader community. Jo and Kieran are truly worthy recipients of the 2023 Dick Menting Community Champion Award and we thank Inner East Community Bank for their ongoing support of our club."
