Michael Bingley - A Stalwart member of both Boroondara Cricket Club and the ECA, brings up Game 500

Michael Bingley plays his 500 th game for Boroondara Cricket Club this weekend in our 4ths team.
Michael, the oldest of the 3 talented and very competitive Bingley brothers who have
represented Boroondara Cricket Club, joined the club (then known as Riversdale
Boroondara) in 1980. Astonishingly 44 seasons later, Michael is still pulling on the whites (or the navy and gold) for Boroondara.
Binga has been an extremely talented all-rounder over those 4 decades at Boroondara. As a hard-hitting batsman he has scored over 12,000 runs, with 12 centuries and a top score of 151. Bowling has yielded almost 500 wickets with best figures of 7 for 69. Michael has been a premiership player 9 times and played representative cricket for the ECA.
As if Michael’s on-field contribution is not significant enough in itself, he has also made a tremendous off field contribution to cricket generally at both Boroondara and the ECA. He spent 16 years as President and many more years on the committee at Boroondara and has dedicated over a decade on the ECA executive.
Along with Mark Morris, Michael was heavily involved and worked extremely hard in re-
starting the junior program at Boroondara. These two valued members set the template for the others who followed in the administration of our junior section. Without the efforts of Mark and Michael, our club would not have a junior program anything like it does today.
Michael is a passionate man with strong views, that he is prepared to make well known. No more so than when he is dealing with cricket issues or talking about his beloved Saints in the AFL. Michael is a lifelong Saints supporter, inspired by his father John, a 1966 premiership player who passed away earlier this year.
Michael was made a life member of Boroondara Cricket Club in 2002 and all associated with the club are extremely appreciative of the lifelong commitment Michael has made to our club.
Well done Binga on this fantastic achievement.

ECA congratulates Michael Bingley for reaching the 500 game milestone for his club.
As most people know Michael has been a stalwart for his club and for the ECA.
A lot of people can attest to Michael’s passion for cricket and undoubtably all these have had the pleasure of many long conversations with him about what he sees as the best ways of tackling matters, whether that be for his club or the ECA. Some of these “discussions” would occur late at night as he was always up for a chat whatever the time.
Michael’s work for ECA was being Synthetic Wicket manager for 10 seasons before his club called him back and he was integral in getting the ECA Veterans competition up and running.
Hopefully Michael will continue to be active in cricket for many more seasons as he is the sort of person that does not come around often.
Well done Michael!
