Applications invited for coaching positions for the 2027 VMCU Cricket Carnival
The Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union (VMCU) is the peak body representing metropolitan community cricket associations and clubs across Melbourne. It is responsible for the administration and delivery of the annual VMCU Junior Representative Cricket Carnival, held each January. The carnival provides talented young cricketers from across metropolitan Melbourne with the opportunity to compete in a high-quality representative environment, further develop their skills, and showcase their abilities against the best players from other associations.
Participation in the VMCU Carnival is a significant milestone in a player's cricket journey and plays an important role in supporting the development of future representative and pathway cricketers. To support the development and performance of our representative players, the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA) seeks suitably qualified and committed coaches for each age group participating in the VMCU Carnival.
Position Overview
The ECA VMCU Representative Team Coach is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive coaching program for a selected junior representative team participating in the annual VMCU Carnival, conducted from 4 January to 17 January 2027. The role focuses on player development, team preparation, and competitive participation in age-group representative cricket competitions for both boys and girls.

Key Responsibilities
The successful applicants will:
- Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching expertise to their assigned representative squad, ensuring players are appropriately prepared for representative competition.
- Develop and implement an age-appropriate coaching program from October to December, focusing on technical, tactical, physical, and personal development.
- Lead player selection by actively conducting trials, assessing players against set selection criteria, performance history, and representative standards.
- Plan and conduct training sessions, selection trials, and practice matches throughout the preparation period.
- Attend and coach all matches during the VMCU Carnival and maintain a consistent presence throughout the tournament.
- Work collaboratively with Assistant Coaches, Team Managers, parents, and ECA officials to create a positive and supportive team environment.
- Promote the values of sportsmanship, respect, inclusion, and player wellbeing.
- Attend all meetings relating to representative cricket as required by the ECA and/or VMCU.
- Ensure compliance with Cricket Australia, Cricket Victoria, VMCU, and ECA policies and procedures.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- Cricket Australia Community Coach Accreditation (Level 1) or higher; Level 2 preferred.
- Demonstrated experience coaching junior cricketers and developing player skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to design, implement, and evaluate coaching programs.
- Sound knowledge of the Laws of Cricket and junior cricket playing conditions.
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency in common digital communication tools.
Desirable Criteria
The following will be viewed favourably:
- Experience in coaching representative and/or pathway cricket programs.
- Understanding of VMCU Representative Competition playing conditions and match day rules.
Remuneration
$1,000 per lead coaching appointment (payment made after satisfactory completion of role in the VMCU carnival)

Applicants must provide the names and contact details of two referees who can comment on their suitability for the position. At least one referee should be able to speak to the applicant’s experience working with junior players and/or in a coaching capacity. You are required to include the name, position, relationship to applicant, organisation, phone number and email address
