4.3 HOURS OF PLAY AND PLAYING CONDITIONS
Rule 4.3.1: A match in Dunstan Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1 and there is no time lost during the day. Team B bowls Over Requirement to Team A by 5.49pm, Day 1 finishes.
Rule 4.3.2: (When match starts at 12.30pm): A match in Macgibbon Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1 and there is no time lost during the day. If at 6.00pm Team B starts over 75 then Team B continues to bowl until 80 overs have been bowled. Play on Day 1 ends at 6.20pm. Official caution issued to captain of Team B (Rule 12.4). Day 2 starts at 12.30pm and Team B is entitled to bat for 80 overs. Rule 4.3.2 only applies to match conditions where there is no time lost on Day 1 and 2 after start of play (either at 12.30pm or delayed start).
Rule 4.3.2: (When match has a delayed start): A match in C Turf has a delayed start on Day 1 and the match commences at 1.30pm (becomes a 124 over match – 62/62). There is no time lost for the rest of the day (from 1.30pm). If at 6.00pm Team B starts over 60 then Team B continues to bowl until 62 overs have been bowled. Play on Day 1 ends at 6.10pm. Official caution issued to captain of Team B (Rule 12.4). Day 2 starts at 12.30pm and Team B is entitled to bat for 62 overs. Rule 4.3.2 only applies to match conditions where there is no time lost on Day 1 and 2 after start of play (either at 12.30pm or delayed start).
Rule 4.3.3: A match in Burt Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Team B bowl 80 overs and play on Day 1 ends at 5.40pm. On Day 2 commences at 12.30pm and Team B are entitled to bat for 80 overs.
Rule 4.3.4: A match in Dunstan Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Team A are all out after Team B bowls 66.2 overs – for the purpose of this rule = 67 overs. Uncompleted over counts as a completed over for the calculation of the overs to be bowled by Team A. No over reduction for change of innings. Team B must bat for 13 overs on Day 1 and are entitled to bat for 80 overs on Day 2 (commencing at 12.30pm).
4.4 LOSS OF TIME AFTER START OF PLAY ON DAY ONE – LESS THAN 30 MINUTES
Rule 4.4.1: A match in A Synthetic starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Heavy rain stops play at 4.05pm. Play resumes at 4.28pm -23 minutes lost. No reduction in overs to be bowled by Team B on Day 1. Play continues to 6.03pm. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time has been lost on Day 1.
4.5 LOSS OF TIME AFTER START OF PLAY ON DAY ONE –30 MINUTES BUT LESS THAN 60 MINUTES
Rule 4.5.1: A match in Dunstan Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm. Play resumes at 4.28pm – 38 minutes lost. Play continues to 6.10pm at which time Team B has bowled 80 overs. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time has been lost on Day 1. If required, for the purposes of determining time lost, the time to be used for the close of play will be 6.00pm.
Rule 4.5.2: A match in Macgibbon Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm. Play resumes at 4.45pm – 55 minutes lost. Play continues to 6.30pm at which time Team B has bowled only 76 overs. Team B has 4 overs to bowl from Day 1. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time has been lost on Day 1. Team A will continue batting on Day 2 at 12.18pm and Team B will bowl the remaining 4 overs from Day 1. Team A will then bowl 80 overs to Team B.
4.6 LOSS OF TIME AFTER START OF PLAY ON DAY ONE – 60 MINUTES OR MORE
Rule 4.6.1: A match in Burt Shield starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm. Play resumes at 5.00pm – 70 minutes lost. Play continues to 6.30pm at which time Team B has bowled only 58 overs. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time has been lost on Day 1. If required, for the purposes of determining time lost, the time to be used for the close of play will be 6.00pm. Game NOT in ordinary conditions. Play will commence at 12.00pm on Day 2. Team A continues its innings until Day 1 Over Requirement is bowled (22 overs) (or all out or declare). Team B entitled to bat remainder of Day 2 (maximum number of overs to be received to be calculated up to Over Requirement).
4.7 LOSS OF TIME ON DAY ONE (BEFORE GAME STARTS) – DELAYED START TO MATCH ON DAY 1
Rule 4.7.1: Match is in Dunstan Shield. Heavy rain overnight has resulted in puddles on the ground which makes the ground unsafe. The ground is made safe for play and play will commence at New Start Time of 1.55pm on Day 1. The Revised Number of Overs for the match will now be a 108 over match with the Revised Over Requirement to be 54 overs. Game NOT in ordinary conditions.
Rule 4.7.2: Match is in Dunstan Shield. The New Start Time is 1.55pm. The match will now be a 108 over match with each team entitled to 54 overs each. Team A wins the toss and bats. Team B bowl 54 overs to Team A and play on Day 1 ends at 5.49pm. Day 2 shall commence at 12.30pm and Team B is entitled to bat for 54 overs.
4.8 LOSS OF TIME DAY TWO
Rule 4.8.1 (Day 2 starts at 12.30pm – 48 minutes lost on Day 2): Match is in Burt Shield. Day 1: Team A bats for 80 overs. Day 2 starts at 12.30pm and Team B bats. Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm. Play resumes at 4.38pm – 48 minutes lost. Play continues to 6.20pm at which time Team A has bowled 80 overs or a result is achieved.
Rule 4.8.1 (Day 2 starts at Revised Start Time – 50 minutes lost on Day 2): Match is in Burt Shield. Day 1 has a Revised Start Time of 1.55pm (108 over match). Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm and play resumes at 4.45pm - 55 minutes lost on Day 1. Play continues to 6.30pm on Day 1 at which time Team B has bowled only 47 overs. Day 2 - Team B has 7 overs to bowl from Day 1. On Day 2 Team A will continue batting at 12.09pm and Team B will bowl the remaining 7 overs from Day 1. Team A will then bowl 54 overs to Team B. On Day 2 heavy rain stops play at 3.40pm and play resumes at 4.30pm – 50 minutes lost on Day 2. Play continues on Day 2 to 6.35pm at which time Team A has bowled 54 overs or a result is achieved.
4.8.2 (Day 2 starts at 1.00pm – 80 minutes lost on Day 2): Match is in Burt Shield. Day 1: Team A bats for 80 overs. Day 2 starts at 12.30pm and Team B bats. Heavy rain stops play at 3.50pm. Play resumes at 5.10pm – 80 minutes lost. 50 minutes remaining (5.10pm to 6.00pm): 50/3.5 = 14.28 (15 Overs). Team bats for remaining 15 overs. Minimum overs calculation to occur (time remaining from resumption of play to 6pm excluding team break shall be divided by 3.5). Adjusted overs amended for further delays. Play shall continue, if necessary (weather and light permitting) after 6.00pm to achieve the completion of the adjusted overs. The match result will be a draw UNLESS Team B has received it’s agreed over entitlement by 6.00pm, or later to achieve the minimum adjusted overs, or it is dismissed or has passed Team A’s score.
4.9 LOSS OF TIME AT OR AFTER 6:30PM ON EITHER DAY
Rule 4.9.1 (no time lost on Day 1 and loss of time at/after 6.30pm on Day 1): A match in B Turf starts at 12.30pm on Day 1. Team A wins the toss and bats. At 5.50pm Team B have bowled 77 overs. Heavy rain stops play at 5.50pm – no further play can take place on Day 1. Should play on Day 1 be interrupted at or after 6.30pm, no further play will take place. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time has been lost on Day 1. On Day 2 Team B has 3 overs to bowl from Day 1. On Day 2 Team A will continue batting at 12.21pm and Team B will bowl the remaining 3 overs from Day 1. Team A will bowl 80 overs to Team B.
Rule 4.9.2 (loss of time at/after 6.30pm on Day 2): Match is in Burt Shield. Day 2 starts at 12.30pm. Heavy rain stops play at 5.30pm and no further play can take place. The match result will be a draw UNLESS Team B has received it’s agreed over entitlement it is dismissed or has passed Team A’s score.
4.12 OUTRIGHTS
4.12.2 (first innings result on Day One): On Day One where both teams have completed a first innings, other than by both being compulsorily closed (first innings result on Day One), play may continue on Day One until the Over Requirement for the day has been bowled (see also Rule 4.1.4). On Day Two play may continue until the Over Requirement for the day has been bowled. Play shall continue, if necessary (weather and light permitting) after 6.00pm to achieve the completion of the Over Requirement. No over reduction for change of innings.
4.12.3 (first innings result on Day Two): On Day Two where both teams have completed a first innings, other than by both being compulsorily closed (first innings result on Day Two), a calculation of the number of overs to be bowled to attempt to achieve an outright result shall be made. The time remaining from either the beginning of play (whenever that is), the commencement of an innings or other resumption during the days play to 6.00pm excluding any time for any scheduled tea interval, shall be divided by 3.5 (see ready reckoner). The resulting number, rounded upwards, shall be the maximum adjusted overs to be bowled between the start or resumption of play and 6.00pm. If necessary, the adjusted overs to be bowled shall be amended for any further delays or interruptions in play or change of innings. Play shall continue, if necessary (weather and light permitting) after 6.00pm to achieve the completion of the adjusted overs. The total overs bowled on the day shall not exceed the total overs allocated at the beginning of the days play whenever that is. Thus, any calculated maximum is to be adjusted down to meet this requirement.
Note: Before the start of the match the Revised Number of Overs for the match should be agreed by the umpires (or in their absence the captains of both teams). At the conclusion of Day One (if required), the Revised Starting Time on Day Two and Overs still to be bowled from Day One should be agreed by the umpires (or in their absence the captains of both teams).
NEW RULE (2023-24 SEASON) - Rule 4.11.4/4.7.3 added: If at the conclusion of the Over Requirement for Day 1, a small number of runs are required or wickets to be taken to win the match and both captains wish to continue playing in order to achieve a definite result on that day, play will continue until either the match concludes or the players have cause to leave the field for any reason.
