Role: VMCU Representative Team Coach

VMCU Overview

The VMCU is the umbrella organisation for nearly all Melbourne metropolitan community cricket associations and clubs and represents the interests of metropolitan cricket to Cricket Victoria (CV) while working collaboratively to oversee and develop community cricket in Melbourne. The VMCU Carnival is an important yearly event held in January, when skilled young players from around the state come together and showcase their abilities in a tournament format competition. To develop, guide and support our players, the ECA requires suitable Coaches for each age group in the VMCU Representative Carnival. The coaches will be supported by the ECA and a team manager designated to each team.

Position Overview

The VMCU Representative Team Coach will deliver a comprehensive coaching program for a selected junior team participating in the annual VMCU Carnival from Monday January 5th to Sunday January 18th, 2026. The role focuses on skill development, team preparation, and competitive participation in age-group representative competitions for boys and girls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and coaching expertise for the assigned age-group squad, ensuring players are prepared for representative competition.
  • Develop and implement an age-appropriate training curriculum, running practice sessions in November and December, with a focus on technical, tactical, and personal development.
  • Participate actively in selection trials by evaluating candidates based on established trial criteria and historical cricketing performance, contributing to the selection of final squads.
  • Oversee and facilitate trial games, practice matches, and all team games during the VMCU Carnival, maintaining consistent presence from initial fixtures to grand finals.
  • Attend meetings relating to representative cricket as scheduled by the [insert Association] or VMCU.
  • Work closely with Assistant Coaches, General Managers, and Team Managers to make sure every player gets the support and guidance they need.

Essential Criteria

1.Cricket Australia Coaching Accreditation Level 1 minimum, Level 2 preferred
2. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
3. Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt to a change in circumstances or events
4. Strong leadership skills and capability to review and develop cricket coaching programs.
5. Knowledge of the laws of cricket
6. Two current references, background checks will be conducted as required by Cricket Victoria
7. Valid Working with Children Check
8. Computer literacy

Desirable Criteria

1.Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications
2.Knowledge of PlayHQ
3.Cricket Scoring experience
4.Sound understanding of the VMCU Representative Game Day Rules

Remuneration: $1,000
