Umpires Appointments Officer
Position Description
The Umpires Appointments Officer plays an important role within the administration of ECA, reporting to the Umpires Manager. The role involves appointing the best available umpire to each game, ensuring matches are officiated by qualified and suitable umpires, contributing to the smooth running of the competition at all levels. The key responsibilities of this executive appointed role include, however are not limited to, the following.
Key Responsibilities
1. Umpire Selection
Appoint umpires to matches based on their skill level, experience, and availability.
Ensure that the most appropriate umpire is selected for a specific match, considering factors like match level, venue, and the umpire's expertise.
Effectively and efficiently use the OfficialsHQ appointments programme to maximise the best outcomes.
2. Scheduling
Organise the scheduling of umpires for matches across various competitions and tournaments.
Coordinate the availability of umpires, ensuring there is no overlap or scheduling conflict.
Provide necessary documentation to enable the ECA Finance Manager to pay all umpires as required.
3. Communication
Ensure a match report template is available through the OfficialsHQ appointment programme for umpires to complete after each game.
Provide a captain’s report template through the OfficialsHQ appointments programme to enable feedback and rating of each umpire’s performance after each game by club captains.
Maintain clear communication with umpires regarding their appointments, match schedules, and expectations.
Notify umpires of any changes in scheduling or other important updates.
4. Monitoring Performance
Work closely with the Umpires Manager to recommend training or further development.
5. Coordination with Governing Bodies
Liaise with Cricket Victoria, other associations, and relevant governing bodies to ensure compliance with umpire standards and regulations.
6. Compliance and Regulations
Ensure that all appointed umpires meet the criteria set by governing bodies eg fitness standards, experience and accreditation.
Make sure all appointments adhere to the regulations, avoiding conflicts of interest or bias.
Stay informed about any changes in rules, regulations and appointment processes at the community cricket level.

The ability to manage multiple schedules and appointments efficiently is critical in this role.

Clear communication with umpires, the Umpires Manager, ECA executive and the umpires association as required.

Knowledge of Cricket
A good understanding of the sport, the role of the umpire, and the selection criteria is vital.

Problem-Solving
The ability to handle conflicts or unexpected changes eg, an umpire becoming unavailable last-minute, strong organisational and interpersonal skills are important.
