First Innings runs are golden as bowlers, fielders defend their total to claim flag

Win flag from third position - with two convincing away wins in the finals

North Balwyn has defeated Mont Albert by 52 runs to take out the 2023-24 Dunstan Shield. After finishing third on the ladder, they convincingly defeated second place East Doncaster away, and then Mont Albert also away.
For Mont Albert, it was a tough day as they had topped the ladder for almost the entire season, a season which saw many twists and turns in matches between sides below them.
A large crowd was on hand on day two - with supporters from both clubs 4-5 rows deep lining the pavillion side boundary. Player of the Match was North Balwyn Skipper Nitesh Patel for his first innings 81 runs. Umpire Gary Shipp made special metion of Fats Singh for his 5 wicket haul off 40 overs.
Mont Albert struggled to build partnerships, and as some pundints predicted overnight, the lush green outfield (read slow) meant it would be a grind and runs would be hard to find and North Balwyn had a winning score.
North Balwyn spinner Alex Smith grabbed four wickets, while 'very-part-time' spinner Sam Perry picked up two and snaffled three catches in the outfield. Jack Woods top scored for Mont Albert with his 33. More to come.
