Around the Grounds Synthetic

Mt Waverley Cath's and STC prevail in a thrillers in Burt. Yakubowski puts Glen Waverley to the sword. Some highlights from synthetic at the weekend

Cath's win the derby

We got around to two Burt Shield Matches on Saturday - Round 4.  At the derby between Mt Waverley Catholics and Mount Waveley Uniting we saw an entertainging game unfolding.  MWC had send MWU into bat - the MWU lads were up and about as, according to one unnamed player, they were rapt to see their team post a healthy total for a change!  Unfortunately 175 was not quite enough - Cath's Shane Griffin (18*) held his nerve to get his side over the line 9 wickets down with two balls to spare.

Trinity Willison hammer Glen Waverley

No sooner had we arrived at Brentwood Reserve, Trinity Willison's Max Yakubowski took a single to notch up his ton - he made 123 (87) and with his opening partrner Calan Jackson (51) shared a 190 run partnership. Glen Waverley could only muster 86 in reply on a day they will be keen to put behind them.

In other Burt matches, STC prevailed in a thriller against the Monash Roaders in a match that went down to the last over of the match.  And a high scoring affair at Seddon Reserve saw Clifton Hill also overhaul the target set by West Ivanhoe United in the final over. Kyle Dundas hit 91 for Clifton Hill, Basim Khan 90 for WIU.

In Macgibbon, Nathan Douglas took some inspiration possibly from his sendoff the previous week by posting 140 not out in Boroondara's win against Toorak Prahran - who fell agonisingly short in the chase. Burwood Uniting Canterbury prevailed over Clifton Hill in a cliff hanger, while Deepdene Uniting and Trinity Willison scored comfortable wins.
